Oil Show Success

Following the fantastic success of the Kazakhstan International Oil and Gas Conference (KIOGE) Exhibition in October, at which Denholm Zholdas featured a stand, DZ are delighted to announce a working relationship has been formalised with Hydratight who manufacture, distribute, sell, and rent bolting products and associated equipment and services.

June 2007 saw immediate benefits of the new relationship resulting in winning the Torque & Tensioning contract at KPO in Aksai. The contract is for 3 years and will utilize Hydratight’s specialist knowledge and technical supervision, coupled with DZ vast technician support structure. The DZ commercial team (David Muir and Adam Seymour), together with Hydratight’s Jeff Stewart and Paul Holland, put together a substantial proposal in order to cover all of KPO’s ongoing mechanical maintenance requirements for joint integrity work, which was enough to win the contract despite strong in-country and international competition.

This alliance puts both Hydratight and DZ in a strong position to compete on upcoming contracts in Kazakhstan. This will help strengthen and expand upon DZ’s operational and specialist capabilities, as well as continuing our investment in Kazakhstan.

Atyrau Oil and Gas Exhibition and Conference

The DZ team attended the Atyrau Oil and Gas Exhibition in April 2007. The exhibition is one of the premier meeting points for key decision makers and influencers who specify contracts for projects in Kazakhstan.

The DZ stand, designed by Annette Lock, stood head and shoulders above the 125 other exhibitors at the show and was awarded the ‘Best Stand’ prize. The DZ team was enhanced further by the inclusion of some of their partners in Kazakhstan, including Aggreko, A&N Plant, Hydratight and NDT.

One of the highlights of the event was a brief presentation made by our team to the Governor of the Atyrau Region (Mr Bergei Ryskaliev) and the British Ambassador (Mr Paul Brummell). This was conducted in the full spotlight of the Kazakh media, and broadcast on national television the same evening. The officials were clearly impressed by the success of DZ, particularly in the area of vocational training for locally engaged specialists.

Of course the key reason for being at the show was to win business and on this measure, the show was a resounding success. There were strong expressions of interest from companies visiting the show from abroad, including companies who were there as part of trade missions from Canada and the UK. There was also interest from a major Kazakh equipment manufacturer, a tie-up with whom could lead to DZ gaining better access to local projects run by Kazakh state and independent companies.

The Conference that runs concurrently with the exhibition brought together more than 300 delegates, including representatives from the Kazakhstan government, international and local business community, academics and media experts. As one of the major sponsors of the event, DZ were given a keynote speakers slot filled by Shozey Jafferi (Head of Business Development). His chosen topic centred on the importance of training local nationals to the international standards required to install, operate and maintain the technologically advanced components used in oil and gas operations. And, of course, how DZ do just that, as part of their long-term commitment to contribute to the development of a local skilled workforce.

Queen’s Birthday Party in Atyrau, April 2007

The Denholm Zholdas team headed off to the Queen’s Birthday Party celebrations in Atyrau hosted by the British Ambassador the day after the show. The party was a great way to round off a successful week and luckily held on a Saturday to allow those with sore heads to rest them the following morning!

Next on Denholm Oilfield Services hit-list is the Offshore Europe Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition, Aberdeen in early September. In excess of 1,400 exhibitors and 32,000 attendees will be present over the 3 days; a full update will be in the next edition of the Denholm News.
